Return Periods


90 DAYS

Most merchandise can be returned within 90 days with proof of purchase to The Home Depot unless noted below. The Home Depot reserves the right to decline returns where a product does not have a manufacturing defect but has been damaged by the customer, or to prevent fraud or abuse.


365 DAYS

If your purchase was made with The Home Depot Consumer Credit Card, The Home Depot Pro Xtra Credit Card (Commercial Revolving Charge), or The Home Depot Commercial Account, you have 365 days from date of purchase to receive a full refund, unless noted in “In-Store Return Exceptions,” “Online Return Exceptions” and or “Return Policy Exceptions” below.

While most plants are returnable within 90 days, perennials, trees, roses, and shrubs have a 1-year guarantee and can be returned for store credit.

Sales of Gift Cards and Store Credits are final and can only be used for purchasing.

Custom Products, including:

Blinds: Custom blinds cannot be returned and may only be exchanged (unless they are identified as “Guaranteed to Fit” which can be returned). Limited to four blinds per household. Exchange must be the same product and color. Additional charges may apply if there is a price difference between old and new blinds. Exchange must occur within 15 days of receipt of package. If you have received an incorrect product, please call 1-800-921-2119 for a replacement.

Refunds


Purchases with Receipt

Returns for purchases with valid proof of purchase will be refunded to the original form or payment (credit card, cash, credited to your account, PayPal, refunded via Store Credit, etc.), unless noted in our Exceptions. Store stock products found to be defective can be exchanged or swapped in-store for the same stock item within the product’s return policy period.

Purchases Without a Receipt

If you're missing your receipt, we may be able to locate it in our system. Receipts for purchases made with a credit or debit card or by check may be located in our system within 90 days of purchase. Receipts for purchases made with The Home Depot Consumer Credit Card, Pro Xtra Credit Card (Commercial Revolving Charge), or The Home Depot Commercial Account may be located in our system within 365 days of purchase.

Purchases made with Gift Card or Store Credit

Returns for purchases made with a Gift Card or a Store Credit will be refunded as a Store Credit. Returns for purchases made with an e-Gift card can be refunded as an e-Gift card to the original email address provided. Registration of Store Credit may be required. Please bring a valid driver's license or government-issued photo identification for registration.

Shipped Purchases

Original shipping charges will be fully refunded if the return is the result of an error by The Home Depot. Exceptions may apply (including Express Delivery and Major Appliance). Items must be returned with all components for a full refund.

Cash Purchases Exceeding $1,000

Cash and cash equivalent purchases exceeding $1,000 may be refunded by check sent from The Home Depot's corporate office.

Special Order Returns or Cancellations

Special Order returns or cancellations may be subject to a 15% restocking fee and must be returned to the same store where the purchase was made*

Major Appliances Return Policy

Defective or damaged Major Appliances:

Before a customer either accepts delivery or takes an order home from the store, major appliance products (including refrigeration appliances, washers, dryers, ranges, dishwashers and some microwaves) should be inspected for defects or damage. If any exists, the customer should notify the driver about damages for options and refuse delivery if you do not want the damaged product. Once delivery is accepted or a product is removed from the store by a customer, the product may be returned if the defects and/or damage are identified and reported to The Home Depot by contacting Customer Support by texting “Support” to 38698, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or calling for assistance at 1-800-430-3376, 7 days a week, 6a.m. - 2a.m. within 48 hours of delivery/the time of pick-up at the Service Desk.

Missed Deliveries: If a customer does not accept a delivery within 30 days of the unit(s) arriving at the delivery facility, the order will be cancelled, and the unit(s) will be returned.

Hazardous Materials Return Policy

Due to safety hazards, items that use flammable liquids or gases cannot be returned through the mail, even if the item has been drained of these materials. This would include (but is not limited to) items such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and any other items that use flammable liquids or gases. Please return products that use flammable liquids/gases or other hazardous materials to your local store.

Plants Return Policy

Everyday Guarantee:

Most plants are returnable within 90 days. Perennials, trees, roses, and shrubs have a 1-year guarantee and can be returned after 90 days for Store Credit. In the event that live goods purchased online (including, but not limited to, houseplants, perennials, trees, holiday trees, wreaths and garlands) are received damaged or dead, contact Customer Support by texting “Support” to 38698, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or calling for assistance at 1-800-430-3376, 7 days a week, 6a.m. - 2a.m. within 3 days of delivery and we will ship a replacement at no charge. This policy does not apply to cut flowers or floral arrangements.

Order is Damaged or Missing Parts

If an order arrives damaged or incomplete or needs replacement parts, contact Customer Support by texting “Support” to 38698, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or calling for assistance at 1-800-430-3376, 7 days a week, 6a.m. - 2a.m. ET within 30 days of delivery for resolution.

Merchandise Ordered from Third-Party, Marketplace Sellers

The Home Depot return policies apply only to items purchased from The Home Depot (in store or online at homedepot.com). Items purchased from a third-party or marketplace seller, but shipped by The Home Depot, must be returned to the selling party in accordance with their return policies.

Paint Return Policy

Paint Satisfaction Guarantee Policy: If you are not satisfied with your interior or exterior liquid paint purchase, bring your paint and receipt back to the store within 30 days of purchase. We will make it right by correcting your paint or giving you a comparable can of paint.

Policy excludes: Application issues and improperly prepared surfaces, liquid stains, color samples, “OOPs” (store discounted mixed paint) merchandise, special order, non-stock products, 3rd parties and marketplaces, labor and installation. We reserve the right to limit guarantee at our discretion in the event of suspected fraud or abuse.

What if I want to return an item purchased with an eGift card?

Any order purchased with an eGift card Credit will only be returnable in stores.

How long will it take for me to receive a refund once I return an item?

Returns processed at the store: Refunds are issued in-store at time of return. **

Return by Mail: Refunds are issued upon receipt and processing of the return. **

Are original shipping charges refunded?

Original shipping charges are refunded if there was an error on the part of The Home Depot.

What if my return was a gift?

You can take your return to a store to receive Store Credit.
